Call for Inputs into Ethical Standards and Code

The Enron bankruptcy saga brought to fore the issue of corporate governance and ethical conduct of corporate businesses not only in the United States, but around the world. Discontent which followed the use of September 11 Compensation Fund utilization and the resultant litigations and moral questions, placed the ethical use of funds by organisations such as the Red Cross on the receiving end  in the United States.

As a result, coming in the wake of the Enron Tyco scandals, calls for higher public accountability, transparency and operational standards for both profit and non-profit organisations have increased in recent times in response to these concerns.

In order to promote a universally acceptable and applicable code to guide non-profit operations and activities we hereby call all stakeholders including NGOs, INGOs, donors, governments, corporate for profit organisations and civil society to make Inputs into the "Ethical Standards and Code for NGOs in the Commonwealth" being compiled.

We would very much appreciate your sending your views and opinions as to correct modes of professional conducts and guidelines to be followed by NGO practitioners in the carrying out of their activities, be it as it affects project execution, fund raising, fund management, donor NGO relationship, NGO-government relationship, NGO-staff relationship, policies, governance and other relevant issues of importance to NGOs.

All inputs to the Code should include contact details of contributor, and their views should be sent to CANGO Secretariat by email to cangohq@yahoo.com

Our participatory approach to non-profit governance is to encourage ownership by all NGOs and member of civil society in the Commonwealth, especially you in all our activities. We call on you and your colleagues to nominate members into the International Council, the highest policy making body of CANGO.
