Commonwealth Association of Non Governmental Organisations, CANGO

CANGO PEACE PRIZE

"Towards a Better and More Peaceful World"

Burdened by the immensity of the sorrowful situations  of humans in conflict; saddened by the terrible plight of masses of the human race in conflict situations all over planet earth; troubled by the sufferings of the Palestinians and Israeli peoples in the Middle East; by the horrible bloodlettings among the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, worried by the lamentations of childless mothers in Chechnya,  and the poverty, diseases, famine and hunger ravaging war torn zones in practically all the continents of the world; CANGO has seen the need to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of distinguished men and women across the globe, who have left indelible imprints in the form of peacemaking in the sands of human time.

To this effect, the Commonwealth Association of NGOs, CANGO, has decided to initiate the Annual CANGO Peace Prize Award as a means of honouring those members of the human race, who had taken the lead towards facilitating the creation of peace in some of the otherwise most troubled region of our world today.

CANGO Peace Prize 2003

By general consensus, the 2003 CANGO Peace Prize has already been awarded posthumously to a great diplomat, administrator and peace legend in the person of :

Sergio Viera de Milo

who paid the supreme price for peace; while on a most risky United Nations peace mission to Iraq. May God bless the memory of his soul. Amen.
